So I’m watching Scandal with a very good friend and brilliant playwright, who I’ve performed her work before and am in the process of perparing a staged reading for her lastest script. During a commercial break, she glances over me and asks, “You sing, right?” and I’m like, “Huh?” Now normally, this is standard banter between an actress and a writer, however, within the past two years, I’ve gotten that question about five times from writers, producers and directors who I’ve worked with.
I have been working with an amazing vocal coach for the last two years, but more for knowing my voice and confidence, not in particularly to be a singer. I just find it funny because I ask myself, “Do I look like a singer?” I don’t promote myself as such but perhaps the universe is trying to tell me something. We’ll see where it goes.
